Founded in 2006, MICHAEL BASTIAN is a renowned New York-based luxury Menswear brand whose design philosophy is predicated on classic American tailoring and sportswear with a modern fit and produced at a luxury level.
The birth of the brand was the direct result of MICHAEL BASTIAN’s experience as the Men’s Fashion Director for Bergdorf Goodman, a position he held for 5 years.
During his tenure, Michael realized there was a need for a Menswear collection that was an American response to European brands such as Brunello Cucinelli and Boglioli.
These brands were forging a new path between what was formerly classified as either ‘luxury’ or ‘designer’, but in reality, was a new way of dressing that combined the best of both worlds.
Michael capitalized on this global macro trend of men wearing more sportswear to work (and the subsequent need to upgrade those pieces), and the rise of the #menswear movement in social media.
The MICHAEL BASTIAN brand went on to garner 6 CFDA Menswear nominations culminating in winning the Menswear Designer of the Year in 2011.
Additionally, Michael Bastian was honored twice by GQ with inclusion in their Best New Menswear Designer in America competition— once for his own line and once for his collaborative line with GANT, GANT by Michael Bastian.
In the 10 years since its founding, MICHAEL BASTIAN has been distributed in over 12 countries in the top luxury retailers including Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Mr. Porter, Holt Renfrew, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Matches, Boon the Shop,
United Arrows, Harvey Nichols, Colette and many others.
In 2015, the brand launched its first dedicated online Michael Bastian webstore, www.michaelbastiannyc.com.
In July of 2015, the brand introduced it’s first women’s capsule collection for Spring ’16.
This was presented as part of their runway show during the first ever New York Fashion Week: Men’s.
